Music

I have been listening to music on an almost constant basis lately.  If I am not in class, I usually have my headphones in or music playing on my computer.  I find it very relaxing and almost uplifting.  Currently, I have been listening to a lot of Lil Wayne, T.I., Rihanna, Dave Matthews Band, and Nirvana.  It is weird that even sad songs somehow have a way of making someone feel better.  Not saying that I have been having bad days or anything but music always tends to put me in a better mood.

For instance, listening to Nirvana, which is by no means "happy music" somehow makes me feel better.  Maybe its because I understand that I am not at all in a situation similar to Kurt Cobain when he was writing all of his music.  I know that I am stable, that I am happy with my life and the direction that it is going.  Listening to his music makes me understand how lucky I am to feel this way.

Listening to the likes of Lil Wayne and T.I. gets me into a great mood because I love rap.  I love finding a new line in a song that just makes me smile.  I think both of them are some of the best poets and lyricists right now because they can turn some of the most obvious things into the weirdest metaphors or some of the weirdest things into the most obvious metaphors.

I think Rihanna is one of the most talented and beautiful artists out there.  It seems like every thing she touches turns to gold (Except for Chris Brown maybe....too soon?).  The great thing about her is that she transcends both genders with her music.  It is enough hip hop and party music, so that is not considered girly to listen to her.  I have no problem telling people that I regularly listen to Rihanna because her music is actually good.  By the way, I think Chris Brown has finally given me some room, so I will soon be dating Rihanna.  Thanks, in advance, for all of your congratulatory remarks.

Finally, Dave Matthews Band.  I have listened to them for pretty much 7 years straight now.  They are by far my favorite band and probably always will be.  I have heard every song they do thousands of times over, but every time I hear a different version or the same version over again, it seems that I find a small part that I had never noticed before.  It is ridiculous really, it could be just a couple notes on the saxophone or a little lick that Dave adds in or a little extra roll Carter adds on the drums.  It gets me every time and then I am hooked.  DMB is one of those bands that you can put on your CD player on a long drive and literally listen to every second of one of their albums.  I could go on for hours about DMB, but I will leave it for now.  Maybe I will do an entire post on them later.

As always I will end my post with some quote, but this time lyrics from Dave Matthews Band.

Turns out not where, but who you're with that really matters. - Best of What's Around

Hey, my love, you came to me like wine comes to the mouth.  Grown tired of water all the time.  You quench my heart and, love, you quench my mind. - Two Step

You don't need to prove a thing to me, just give me faith make me believe - Save Me

  1. Maybe we could go on a double date with Ciara and Rihanna when I get back? Ci Ci is flying over here to see me for a few days so I'll send the lion cubs with her. I think private jets have less trouble with nosey federal agents poking their noses in where they don't belong...
